Kakehashi Games and the Japanese hip-hop group Don Yasa Crew have announced the release of Sonokuni, a top-down 2D action game set to launch for PC (via Steam) in early 2025. The title promises an intense and immersive experience, blending action, moral dilemmas, and Japanese mythology, all accompanied by a visceral soundtrack crafted by the developers themselves.

During the PC Gaming Show Most Wanted Showcase 2024, a preview of the game unveiled a new track from the award-winning soundtrack, titled "DO." Additionally, an updated playable demo has been made available on Steam, allowing players to get a first-hand experience of Sonokuni's intriguing world.

Another highlight was the announcement of a highly anticipated 'Speedrun' mode, which will be included at launch. This mode challenges players to overcome obstacles in mirrored stages, testing their speed and efficiency to achieve the best completion times. The demo already offers a glimpse of this feature through a challenging and innovative version of the levels.

Players will take on the role of Takeru, a lone assassin tasked with infiltrating a surreal superpower fueled by biotechnology. The story explores the balance between the morality of extreme violence and the fight to protect one’s people, presenting a unique perspective inspired by real Japanese myths.

Sonokuni combines challenging gameplay with a rich narrative and a striking soundtrack, positioning itself as one of the most anticipated experiences for fans of 2D action and deep storytelling.
