Ticking Clock Games is gearing up for the release of its highly anticipated Adventure/RPG, Void Sails. Scheduled to launch on May 1, 2025, on Steam, the game invites players to captain a flying ship through uncharted space in search of a missing father.
The journey offers the chance to explore mysterious worlds, engage in dynamic battles, and shape the narrative through impactful choices. With multiple possible endings, Void Sails promises a rich and replayable experience. The studio shared insights into its creative process, explaining that the inspiration emerged during a brainstorming session. “We kept returning to the image of a flying ship, which reminded us of Treasure Planet. That’s when we realized the kind of game we wanted to create.”
Combining the concept of a flying ship with deep narrative elements was an intentional decision. “We believe it’s essential for players to have the agency to shape their own stories,” the studio explained. Drawing inspiration from games like Sunless Sea and Dredge, the team sought to create a unique blend of exploration and storytelling.
The gameplay is divided into exploration and combat, supported by decision-making mechanics. “You’ll pilot a flying ship, exploring unique levels and facing fast-paced, naval-style battles,” the studio elaborated. Players can collect artifacts, upgrade their ship, and enhance their characters’ abilities. Choices made in the captain’s journal play a central role, with some having immediate effects and others leading to long-term consequences. “Some decisions will also challenge players with skill checks based on their character’s attributes,” they added.
During development, the studio encountered significant challenges, particularly with scope and communication. “We wanted to create a game packed with levels, enemy types, and storylines. However, we had to prioritize quality over quantity to deliver a polished experience.” Communication within the team was another unexpected obstacle. “Apparently, if you lock three passionate people in a room, the only thing preventing it from becoming an elimination tournament is that the meeting is remote,” the studio joked.
With the release date approaching, the studio has ambitious post-launch goals. “We’ve fallen in love with the universe and setting of Void Sails,” they revealed. With unused pages of lore still waiting to be explored, the team hopes to expand the game’s world. “If players enjoy the game, we’d love to explore its universe further with a sequel or a prequel,” they shared.
