Broken Mirror Games, in partnership with Skybound Entertainment, has unveiled the first official gameplay trailer for I Hate This Place. Developed by Rock Square Thunder, the game offers a craft-focused, isometric survival horror experience filled with grotesque creatures and warped realities. All of this is wrapped in a comic book-inspired art style with a heavy ’80s horror vibe.
Inspired by the Eisner Award-nominated comic series created by Kyle Starks and illustrated by Artyom Topilin, the game puts players in the role of Elena, who must fight for survival after unwittingly unleashing a malevolent force. In a hostile world, dangers lurk everywhere, and enemies hunt by sound, requiring caution, strategy, and precision every step of the way.
During the day, the goal is to explore the surroundings of the mysterious Rutherford Ranch, gather resources, craft equipment, and reinforce shelters. This is preparation for the night, when threats become more frequent, powerful, and unpredictable. The dynamic day-night cycle transforms the environment and dictates the pace of survival, forcing players to constantly adapt their approach.
Combat in I Hate This Place is not always the best solution. With creatures sensitive to sound, stealth becomes an essential tool. Smart use of noise can lure enemies into traps or steer them away from your path. Survival demands cunning and control of the environment more than brute force.
The world is vast and harsh: from haunted forests to abandoned towns and infested bunkers, each area hides new challenges and precious resources. By rebuilding outposts and upgrading campsites, players gain better chances to resist and explore safely. Every bit of progress is vital.
With a visual style that mixes comic book art with the macabre charm of retro horror, the game delivers a unique identity. Vibrant colors, dark humor, and a precise dose of camp and tension create an atmosphere where dread coexists with stylized aesthetics.
