Guayota, the new 3D adventure and puzzle game by Team Delusion, will be released tomorrow, August 13, 2024, with distribution by Dear Villagers. The game invites players to uncover the darkest secrets of the Island of São Brandão, using the power of fire and light to traverse temples of ancient gods. In a conversation with Team Delusion, the studio shared details about the inspirations behind the game and their expectations for the launch.

According to the studio, "the two main inspirations for Guayota are the legends about the origin of the Canary Islands and the stories of the local gods, as well as the legend of Saint Brendan of Clonfert's discovery of paradise." These influences permeate the game, which is set almost a thousand years after Saint Brendan's supposed discovery. "Players will find traces of Canarian civilization throughout the island and will have to enter ancient temples dedicated to Guanche gods," they explain. A concrete example is the temple of Magec, the Sun God, where the main mechanic involves the use of light to activate magic stones.

In terms of gameplay, Guayota focuses on the use of fire and its narrative importance in the island's history. "All of Guayota's mechanics are related to the use of fire," the developers state. The game also introduces the concept of two dimensions: in the real world, the puzzles are simpler, but traps must be avoided, while in the "plane of madness," there are no traps, but the puzzles become more complex. "Each dimension tells different versions of the island's story, and fully understanding them will be key to solving the mystery."

Regarding the launch, Team Delusion has high hopes for Guayota. "Since Guayota is our first project, we want to take a step forward and reach the widest possible audience." The studio hopes the game will be a success, allowing them to continue developing special games of great cultural value. After the launch, they plan to be attentive to player feedback to improve the game and make it the best possible version.

Although there are no plans for new content after the launch, the studio assures that Guayota was conceived as a classic game, where all content will be available from day one. "We only plan some quality-of-life improvements based on player feedback," they conclude.
