Rizero Studios officially revealed the teaser trailer and Steam page for The Blind Warrior, a story-driven single-player action-adventure game. Inspired by the iconic Indonesian comic Si Buta dari Gua Hantu, the game is set on the island of Java during Dutch colonial rule in the 1860s. Players follow the journey of Barda Mandrawata, a Silat warrior driven by vengeance who ultimately loses his sight.
Contrasting the theme of honor found in games like Ghost of Tsushima, this game is divided into two distinct phases: before and after the protagonist’s blindness. Each phase offers unique combat styles and visuals that reflect Barda’s physical and emotional evolution. Players can switch between light and heavy attacks, dodges, parries, stealth, cinematic finishers, and assassinations.
One of the key features is the “Blind Sense” system, a heightened sensory ability reminiscent of “spider-sense,” helping players with exploration, puzzle-solving, and stealth approaches. Additionally, the game includes an environmental scanning system that creates a unique way of perceiving the world through Barda’s perspective after losing his sight.
Authenticity is also present in the combat, which is heavily influenced by the traditional martial art Pencak Silat. The protagonist’s arsenal includes swords and staffs, with choreography faithful to Southeast Asian martial arts. This combination of intense action and cultural tradition aims to deliver an immersive and distinctive experience within the genre.
Set against a backdrop rich in Indonesian folklore and colonial tensions, the game promises a deep and emotional narrative led by a character whose transformation goes beyond physical sight. Rizero Studios aims to introduce a local story with depth and authenticity to a global audience, paving the way for new horizons in the representation of Indonesian culture in video games.
