Now available for Nintendo Switch, Sip Fisher is an extremely original casual incremental game built around a curious premise: emptying an enormous lake by sucking up water and fish through a giant straw. Alchemy Games ported and published the game for Nintendo's console, bringing Syphon Software's PC hit to the platform. The game was also nominated for Best Student Game at the Independent Games Festival (IGF).
The experience puts players in the role of a fisherman equipped with a gigantic straw and a bucket, facing a lake full of fish that have no idea what is about to happen. The gameplay revolves around stunning schools of fish, sucking them up through the straw, and collecting catches to improve available equipment, turning an apparently absurd task into a progression loop built around gathering resources and upgrades.
The fishing system features stunning mechanics inspired by Elden Ring, an unexpected reference for a laid back experience. This combination gives the game an unusual identity among casual titles, blending the progression systems typical of incremental games with a catching mechanic that curiously echoes the encounters found in action games.
Equipment upgrades play a central role in progression, allowing players to improve their fishing efficiency and gradually increase the number of fish they collect. The cycle of stunning, sipping, and upgrading encourages extended play sessions, with each new improvement making the activity increasingly productive.
The lake also offers room for exploration at a relaxed pace, encouraging players to venture into different areas and discover what lies beyond the next bend. The game combines this freedom with straightforward objectives and frequent rewards, maintaining an accessible experience that does not require players to master complex systems before getting started.
The project began as a summer endeavor and earned recognition with a nomination for Best Student Game at the Independent Games Festival. Its arrival on Nintendo Switch expands the reach of Syphon Software's creation, allowing players to enjoy the experience both on their television and in handheld mode.
