Swiss developer Team KwaKwa has released a demo of the party game Beach Slap for PC via Steam, ahead of this month's edition of Steam Next Fest. The game focuses on multiplayer competition between penguins, combining strategic movement, physical confrontations, and territorial battles across colorful arenas.
Featuring an isometric perspective and fast-paced matches, the game challenges players to move across the arenas and claim the board by covering it with their own color. Jumps, dashes, and slaps allow players to send opponents flying, including into pits scattered throughout the arenas. Forming squares also helps capture large areas at once, while environmental perks can change the outcome of a match.
The game supports one to four players in local multiplayer and up to eight players online. It features more than five game modes, including Conquest, Knockout, King Penguin, and Shakedown, with options for solo play or team-based matches. Players can also explore different zones, create custom arenas using the level editor, and watch replays to review each participant's performance.
Penguin customization adds to the humor, with appearance options featuring unusual accessories such as traffic cones and oversized pug heads. The visual style combines a colorful retro low-poly aesthetic with energetic music composed by Dale North, reinforcing the lighthearted appeal of the independent production.
"While Beach Slap started as a small, goofy project (as is often the case for us)," shared Team KwaKwa, "we were really delighted to see how it resonated with others and are glad to have another go at a multiplayer project after so many years. We hope that this little penguin homage to old arcadey games brings a lot of joy to everyone."
