Released on July 17 by developer Psychic Software, The Necromancer's Tale is a gothic isometric RPG that relies on a deep narrative and dense atmospheres to guide the player through a journey of vengeance and power. Taking control of a low-ranking nobleman from the 18th century, the player is drawn to the forbidden arts of necromancy while seeking to uncover secrets, overcome intrigues, and tread the dark path of the occult. Amidst the rise of rationalism and the shadows of superstition, the game pits science and magic in direct conflict.


Through an ancient tome filled with rituals of death and reanimation, the protagonist can build an army of undead to face the enemies along the way. Mastering these spells, however, requires more than just reading: one must decipher, conceal, and resist madness, or public judgment. The constant tension between arcane knowledge and social survival is one of the game’s core mechanics and narrative pillars.


The story unfolds through interactions with over 150 non-playable characters, each portrayed with unique artwork. The trust system makes every decision meaningful: gaining allies, manipulating foes, and infiltrating dangerous circles demands careful choices. Conversations are more than dialogue, they are tools of influence and risk. A damaged reputation can ruin everything, leading the player to the gallows before an enraged crowd.


Combat uses a tactical turn-based system, with battles between the player, their allies, and the forces animated from the dead. Encounters range from human adversaries to beasts and supernatural entities, requiring strategy and mastery of the learned rituals. Each victory strengthens necromantic power; each defeat brings the player closer to madness.


Set in an alternate reality near the city of Venice in 1733, the environment reflects the conflict between reason and superstition in a Europe where alchemy gives way to chemistry and the court is entangled in politics and dark magic. The world is full of threats, secrets, and opportunities, ready to be explored by those daring enough to push its limits.


Rich in atmosphere and moral choices, the game invites players to dive into a dark storyline where knowledge comes at a price and the line between power and damnation is thin. In the quest for vengeance and ascendance, the necromancer will face not only enemies but also their own reflection twisted by the darkness they have chosen to master.
