Lente, a developer who lives on a boat, has enthusiastically announced the release of Spilled!, her cozy clean-up game, launching on Steam on March 26 for just $6.99 (regional prices may vary).

The experience offers relaxing and rewarding gameplay, putting players in control of a boat to remove oil spills from the ocean. As they recycle waste, earn coins, and upgrade their vessel, players unlock new areas, each with unique challenges and its own ecosystem.

The project began at the end of 2022 when Lente decided to leave school to pursue her dream of living on a small boat, continuing the maritime lifestyle she grew up with. Development was slow at first, but the game gained visibility, and in early 2024, a Kickstarter campaign raised €31,600—316% above the original goal of €10,000.

Now, this tiny cozy indie game is ready to achieve big goals. Boosted by a well-received demo, the game has already surpassed 65,000 wishlists on Steam. With an estimated playtime of about an hour, it allows players to progress through eight increasingly larger and more challenging areas at their own pace.

Beyond cleaning the water and watching marine life return, players can upgrade their boat to handle bigger spills, increase tank capacity, and improve navigation speed. Each area introduces new challenges, such as pushing plastic to recycling centers, washing oil off cliffs, and even putting out wildfires.

The game also encourages marine life conservation, allowing players to rescue two animals per area, totaling 16 species to save. Progress can be tracked in the options menu, ensuring no creature is left behind.

As players explore different biomes—grass, rock, sand, and snow—they not only clean up the environment but also discover new landscapes and challenges, reinforcing an environmental preservation message in a fun and accessible way.
