PLAYERUNKNOWN Productions has kicked off a new testing phase for Prologue: Go Wayback!, the studio’s upcoming hardcore single-player survival roguelike. The Closed Beta runs from May 7 to May 14 and is available on both Steam and the Epic Games Store. To participate, players must sign up through the studio’s official Discord server.
During the closed beta, players will get a first look at an immersive open-world survival experience powered by proprietary terrain generation technology based on machine learning. This innovation allows for the near-instant creation of millions of unique, explorable maps, placing players in unpredictable and ever-changing environments with each playthrough.
To coincide with the testing phase, Epic Games has announced that the title will be available on the Epic Games Store at launch. They also published an exclusive interview with Brendan Greene and the PLAYERUNKNOWN Productions team, revealing how the project evolved from a Rust-inspired survival concept into a key part of Greene’s broader vision, one that aims to build a game world the size of Earth.
Key features include procedurally generated maps created via machine learning, a hardcore survival structure with no tutorials or guidance, and a dynamic weather system that introduces storms, sudden temperature shifts, and unpredictable conditions. The non-linear gameplay encourages free exploration without set goals or scripted paths.
The Closed Beta also serves as a vital channel for community feedback. The studio is actively encouraging players to share their impressions and suggestions via the official PLAYERUNKNOWN Productions Discord server, reaffirming its commitment to open, iterative development.
