DANGEN Entertainment and Mantis Games have just released Deck of Haunts Demo v2.00 on Steam, ahead of Steam Next Fest. This major update brings gameplay improvements, new content, and community-requested features, making the hauntings more unforgettable than ever.
In this sinister deckbuilding roguelike, players take on the role of a haunted house, luring unsuspecting humans inside and terrifying them into madness—or eliminating them—using haunting cards. The latest update revamps core mechanics, enhances human AI, and expands strategic possibilities within the game.
Among the changes, the mansion-building system has been redesigned to encourage planning around the Heart Room, preventing excessive clustering of small rooms. The daytime phase now allows breaking the path to the Heart Room, as long as a new valid route is established before nightfall. Additionally, the Entrance Room can now be repositioned to create new traps.
Human encounters have also become more dynamic. Now, they arrive in staggered waves instead of all at once, increasing tension and unpredictability. Some humans possess the "Pathfinder" trait, allowing them to find alternative ways into the mansion, further challenging the player’s tactics.
The demo also introduces five new cards to expand strategic options, along with new room types. The Mechanical Room reduces Sustain costs for adjacent rooms, while the Weapon Room doubles the damage inflicted on humans inside. The Phobia Room now drains sanity based on the number of connected rooms.
Other enhancements include the ability to customize human names for a more personal touch, two extra nights of gameplay to extend the haunting experience, and various visual and mechanical improvements for a more immersive atmosphere. Additionally, Azrael, the mysterious internet-famous cat, now roams the haunted mansion’s halls, adding a peculiar charm to the game’s eerie setting.
