In Codex Lost, a new open-world spellcasting action-RPG, grimoires have been stolen, and civilization is in ruins. Developed by Freemana and published by JanduSoft, this Soulslike, set for release in 2024, stands out with its focus on crafting ancient elemental magic. The developer, inspired by FromSoftware games such as Dark Souls and Elden Ring, explains: “The core idea behind Codex Lost is to recapture the feeling of exploration and discovery through magic, with a semi-open world where players can craft and use spells to face great lords and uncover mysteries.”

The development of the game has faced significant challenges, primarily due to it being a solo project. “One of the main challenges was advertising,” the creator reveals. “As a solo developer with a limited budget, it’s difficult to stand out in a saturated market. Relying on influencers and content creators like Lobos Jr and Ziostorm was crucial for generating visibility for the game.” Additionally, the developer faced a steep learning curve with Unreal Engine, making the development process a continuous growth experience.

As the release date approaches, the goals for Codex Lost include building a strong fanbase to justify the development of a sequel. “While there are no plans for DLC, I am eager to explore more about the world and lore of the game in a potential future project,” the developer states. The hope is that Codex Lost will attract players seeking unique Soulslikes, with deep lore and complex build mechanics, representing the beginning of a promising franchise.

In summary, Codex Lost promises to deliver an engaging and innovative experience in the Soulslike genre, challenging players with a rich narrative and a unique approach to magic and exploration.
