United Label, a division of CI Games known for producing highly ambitious and lovingly-crafted video games, has officially announced the release of Beyond Galaxyland, set for September 24th. The announcement was made during the Future Games Show at gamescom, where the studio shared details about the 2.5D adventure-RPG, developed by Sam ‘EnrightBeats’ Enright. Drawing inspiration from classic sci-fi movies of the 1980s and iconic turn-based RPGs of the 1990s, the game is a blend of nostalgia and modern design, with a cosmic twist. Set in a collection of zoo-like planets, the story follows Doug, a high school student trying to save Earth from destruction.
"Beyond Galaxyland is about capturing the magic of those classic RPGs while introducing modern gameplay mechanics," Enright shared when discussing the game's inspiration. The game features a rich variety of interplanetary exploration, where players can navigate neon-lit cities, snow-covered plains, and desert biomes. Each environment is filled with unique missions, puzzles, and alien characters, keeping the gameplay fresh and diverse.
The turn-based combat system is one of the game’s standout features. "We wanted the combat to feel strategic but also active and engaging," Enright explained. Players can scan enemies to uncover weaknesses, and every companion in Doug's party brings unique abilities to the table. The addition of responsive defensive mechanics adds an extra layer of depth, allowing players to reduce damage with well-timed inputs.
A key feature in Beyond Galaxyland is the ability to capture and summon creatures. "The idea of using enemies in your favor adds a new dynamic to battles," Enright noted. Players can capture galactic fauna and unleash them in future encounters, creating an ever-evolving strategy. Epic boss fights against space dragons, carnivorous flowers, and the biotechnological Nexus Mind add further excitement to the adventure.
With its vibrant pixel art style and a story filled with humor, danger, and friendship, Beyond Galaxyland promises to offer a modernized homage to the classic RPGs of the past. "It's a love letter to those sci-fi stories that we all grew up with, wrapped in an engaging gameplay experience," Enright concluded.
