Solo developer Matthaios Lappas presented a new trailer for Asthenia, a dark fantasy adventure set in a decaying otherworld plagued by a mysterious and corrupting disease. The game invites players to explore a bleak dimension ruled by ancient entities, shaped by loss, and slowly collapsing under the weight of an endless war.
In this hostile universe, players take on the role of Adam, an ordinary man cast into this world alongside other humans. To survive, he must confront distorted enemies, uncover corrupted artifacts, and traverse dangerous environments that range from abandoned towns and industrial ruins to forgotten temples, all while under a constant sense of threat.
Resources are scarce and danger is ever present, making every choice carry real consequences. Adam’s journey is driven by the search for answers and for a way back to the one he loves, adding strong emotional weight to the decisions made throughout the experience.
Combat centers on deliberate, close range encounters using the Ancient Gauntlet, a primordial artifact that functions both as a weapon and as a tool for interacting with the environment. The gauntlet’s limited energy demands careful planning and awareness, reinforcing the constant tension during exploration.
The absence of maps and quest markers encourages progression based on observation, memory, and player intuition. Storytelling unfolds in a fragmented way through environmental details, scattered letters, unsettling sound cues, visual symbolism, and Adam’s own narration.
Drawing tonal inspiration from works such as Resident Evil 7, Silent Hill, Outlast, and Dark Souls, Asthenia blends oppressive atmosphere, lore rich worldbuilding, and a non handholding design, resulting in an intense and deeply personal experience about decay, loss, and transformation. "Asthenia was born from a deeply personal place," said Manthos Lappas, solo developer of Asthenia. "I wanted to create a world that feels oppressive, mysterious, and alive - where discovery is earned, not handed to the player, and where every action carries real weight."
Among the key highlights are a world ruled by decay, the exploration of a dimension marked by disease and ancient war, meaningful choices that lead to branching paths and three distinct endings, as well as dense environmental storytelling built through symbolism, sound, whispers, and echoes of a forgotten past.
