In Elevator Warp, your goal is simple: take the elevator to the sixth floor. But this is no ordinary elevator. Who knows which random floor you'll end up on? It could be a hotel, a dungeon, a hedge maze, or a train. Check the clues on each floor to progress and achieve the "perfect run." Developed by A Little More Games, the project is set to launch on August 16, 2024. In a conversation with the studio about their expectations, they responded:

When asked about the inspiration behind the concept of Elevator Warp and how the idea of using a random elevator as the main game mechanic came about, the studio explained: "I was fixated on the concept of an elevator that can take you literally anywhere. When an elevator’s doors close and reopen on another floor, it feels like teleporting to another location. I took this idea and expanded on it, allowing the elevator to teleport you to crazy and unexpected places. This was my first idea for the game; I just didn’t know what gameplay mechanics would surround this concept. Initially, I thought of some form of survival game where you use the elevator to traverse different areas and gather materials. Another idea was a Metroidvania-style game where you unlock more levels accessible by the elevator as you progress, collecting items and tools to advance. In the end, I settled on a puzzle game, keeping the scope small, mainly because I had just completed a larger game and wanted to create a smaller one for my next project."

Regarding the development of the diverse environments players will encounter, such as hotels, dungeons, and hedge mazes, and how the studio approached the design and development of these varied settings to ensure they felt unique and engaging, the studio commented: "For the selection of floors, I wanted each one to feel wrong. Like a parking garage with no entrance or exit, or a set of corridors that shift and change. I aimed to make each level quite abstract and unique. This elevator takes you to familiar places, but they are still unsettling."

As the release date of August 16, 2024, approaches, we asked about the biggest challenges faced during the final stages of development and how the team overcame them. They revealed: "I think the puzzle mechanics were the most challenging. I had never made a puzzle game before, and as the sole developer of the game, it was tricky to know if the puzzles were too hard or too easy."

Finally, we asked about plans for post-launch content or updates for Elevator Warp and what they hope players take away from their experience with the game. The studio stated: "I don't plan on any post-release content for the game, unless there are significant demands for something specific. I hope the main takeaway people have from this game is the satisfaction of mastering each floor and its puzzle clue. Getting through marathon mode, where you have to play through all 24 levels, is the ultimate challenge."
