Meteorbyte Studios and Mint Gate Games have announced Toxic Frontier, a card-based strategy and survival game that combines exploration, resource management, and settlement building in a world devastated by radioactive contamination. Featuring a striking retro aesthetic, sinister creatures, and landscapes covered in toxic sludge, the game challenges players to rebuild civilization under extreme environmental conditions.

Gameplay takes place on a hexagonal grid, where expansion begins with a single tile. Each card placed allows players to purify parts of the contaminated landscape and develop combinations between elements of the environment, creating synergies that influence the course of each run. To progress through the levels, players must reach the required score before their available cards run out, making careful planning essential to prevent the expedition from ending prematurely.

Discovering new tiles and cards expands the available strategic possibilities, as different elements can interact with the environment and one another in unexpected ways. These combinations allow players to develop increasingly complex and powerful sequences, requiring thoughtful decisions to improve their chances of survival. Even with effective strategies, the dangers of the wasteland remain a constant threat to explorers.

Rebuilding society also requires traveling across three distinct biomes, each featuring its own stories, quests, and unique mechanics. In addition to introducing new environmental challenges, these regions present different threats to the traveling community, which must confront the dangers of the surface after generations spent underground. In this setting, the expedition seeks to reclaim a world that has survived only as legend for those who grew up far from sunlight and unfiltered air.

The decisions made throughout the journey also influence humanity's future, forcing players to choose between transforming the contaminated lands into a thriving haven or harnessing the corrupting power of the Toxic Frontier itself. The game will feature more than 40 unlockable and collectible cards, four game modes, and two narrative endings, encouraging different approaches and repeated attempts at survival.

Full Steam Deck support will also allow players to explore this hostile world on compatible handheld devices. Through settlement management, the discovery of strategic combinations, and the unique dangers of each biome, the game emphasizes strategic experimentation and replayability while portraying humanity's struggle to start over in the aftermath of a radioactive disaster.
