The Australian indie duo Powerhoof has released a long awaited language update for its award winning point and click thriller The Drifter, which now includes official translations into French, Italian, and Spanish, as well as full support for fan made localisations. The update significantly expands the game’s reach, allowing players from different regions around the world to experience its intense narrative.

These new localisations respond to long standing community requests and arrive at a strategic moment, as Nintendo Switch versions are scheduled to launch later this year, with further details to be announced in the future. The initiative paves the way for new audiences to discover the game’s stylised and gripping story ahead of its console debut.

Commenting on the process, Powerhoof writer and designer Dave Lloyd stated in an official note: "By far the most requested feature for The Drifter has been localization into more languages. There's a lot out there though, and with over 50,000 words in the game we couldn't do them all... officially at least..." The statement highlights both the scale of the project and the care taken to ensure high quality translations.

Alongside the new localisations, a fresh patch introduces quality of life improvements, numerous bug fixes, text corrections, and behind the scenes optimisations. These updates make this the ideal time to dive into the pulse pounding adventure, which is currently available with a special 20 percent discount during Steam Detective Fest.

The title has been earning widespread recognition from critics and the industry alike, having won multiple honours at the 2025 Australian Game Developer Awards, including Game of the Year, Excellence in Narrative, Excellence in Visual Art, and Excellence in Sound Design. It also received the ANZ Indie Game Award at the Indie Game Awards and appeared on several critics’ Best of the Year lists.

Drawing inspiration from the modern revival of the adventure genre, The Drifter delivers an unpredictable and engrossing story, supported by logical and grounded investigative puzzles that connect sharp narrative beats and maintain constant tension. The plot pulls players into a web of shadowy corporations, conspiracy, murder, and a thousand year obsession, as Mick Carter works to unravel the mystery of his own death.

With a strong visual identity defined by gritty pixel art and high impact animation, the game also stands out for its flexible control options, offering a control scheme that works seamlessly with both keyboard and mouse or a controller. Professional voice acting and a cinematic dark synth score round out the experience, reinforcing the dark and relentless tone of this pulp adventure.
