Developer Channel37 has released a new trailer and a revamped demo for The Last Caretaker following the game’s win as Finnish Game of the Year 2025 at the Finnish Game Awards. The new video showcases the current state of the Early Access experience, including content from the latest update, new explorable areas, brand new tools, performance improvements, and the core mission of the adventure, in which a machine attempts to save humanity across a vast ocean world.
Since entering Early Access, the title has maintained a Very Positive user rating and recorded an average playtime of more than 41 hours per player. The project has also gained significant traction among content creators, surpassing 27 million views across more than 6,900 YouTube videos, while reaching 20 million views through more than 950 TikTok videos. On Twitch, the game has already accumulated more than 1.2 million hours watched across over 32,000 streamed hours.
The studio has already delivered five major updates since the start of Early Access, including the extra Update 3.5 Shadow Drop, alongside multiple hotfixes and stability improvements. According to the team, development remains focused on adding new content, improving performance, addressing community feedback, and refining the overall experience.
“We are still in Early Access, so the work is not theoretical. Players tell us where the game bends, where it breaks, and where it becomes something more interesting than we planned”, said Antti Ilvessuo, Co Founder of Channel37. “Winning Finnish Game of the Year feels good, of course. But the real point is that people are playing for a long time, finding things, breaking things, reporting things, and coming back. That is what lets us keep improving the game.”
The latest major update introduces the Salvage Gyro, a new light utility aircraft, alongside Gyro Service Towers, Seed Vault Two, Eden Cradle, Project Canticle, and HoloMemory. The update also adds decoy tools, drone support, hook cables, new world regions, and improvements to weather effects and atmosphere.
In addition to the new content, the update includes a broad technical overhaul covering performance, stability, user interface, localization, audio, physics, vehicles, save systems, and world streaming. The refreshed demo is available now and aims to bring the first playable experience closer to the current state of the full version.
In the game’s story, players take on the role of the last active Caretaker, a machine created with a single directive: save humanity. Across a massive ocean world, players must recover human seeds, recycle the remains of the old world, restore lost systems, and launch the next generation into orbit. Every resource becomes essential in securing another chance for humanity’s survival.
The game is currently available in Early Access on Steam and the Epic Games Store, while the updated demo can now be downloaded for free on Steam.
