The Horror at Highrook is the newest title from solo developer Nullpointer Games, set to launch for PC via Steam on May 1. Officially unveiled during the Lovecraftian Days showcase with a brand-new release date trailer, the game invites players to descend into the shadow-drenched halls of Highrook Manor, the once-proud residence of the Ackeron family, now mysteriously vanished.

As rumors swirl of dark rituals and forbidden pacts, players must lead a team of occult investigators into the heart of the manor. Each character brings a unique set of skills and backgrounds: Vitali the Scholar, Astor the Mecanist, Atticus the Hireling, and Caligar the Plague Doctor. Together, they’ll brave horrors from beyond, uncovering secrets long buried beneath the estate’s crumbling façade.

This is not a typical horror adventure. Inspired by classic tabletop games, the experience is rich with card-driven mechanics and narrative discovery. Beautifully illustrated and tactile, each card represents characters, items, or arcane tools that play a vital role in unraveling the mystery that haunts Highrook.

The gothic horror atmosphere is deeply rooted in literary influences, drawing from the likes of HP Lovecraft, Edgar Allan Poe, and Bram Stoker. The player will explore shadowy corridors, decipher unsettling letters, and engage in intense, often uneasy conversations as they push deeper into a reality tinged with madness.

A central gameplay element is the deep, nonlinear crafting system. By combining characters, locations, and artifacts, players can create protective rites, occult items, and restorative potions necessary to confront and survive the encroaching darkness.

Survival is not only physical but psychological. Players must manage the health, sanity, and hunger of their team, making critical decisions as new threats and opportunities appear on the evolving game board. Each successful challenge unlocks more of the manor, opening paths to new allies, tools, and knowledge needed to defeat the forces at work.
