Publisher Acclaim and Brazilian studio Potato Kid have announced that registrations are now open for the closed beta of Talaka, a fast paced roguelite focused on intense combat that brings Afro-Brazilian mythology to life through a vivid hand painted world. Players still have until tomorrow, July 16, to register and get an early look at the project ahead of its release.

Registration takes place through the official PlayAcclaim Discord server. To participate, users must visit the #talaka-beta-request channel and send a message requesting access to the closed beta. Once approved, the PlayAcclaim team will assign them a special role, grant access to the exclusive beta channel, and provide further instructions when the testing period begins on July 16.

The closed beta will run from July 16 through July 30, giving participants access to the game's first two worlds. During the testing period, players will battle corrupted spirits, twisted legends, and celestial beasts while helping the development team gather valuable data to refine the game's balance.

Paulo Luis Santos, Founder and Studio Head at Potato Kid, emphasized the importance of community feedback throughout development. According to him, "We are so excited to get feedback from players in this beta. At Potato Kid, we strongly believe that as a studio the only way to accomplish our goal of delivering an outstanding game is by listening carefully to players during development. We have been deep down in development for quite some time and it's easy to get tunnel vision. We are confident that fresh perspectives from gamers will go a long way in polishing and improving Talaka, making it the best it can be."

The studio head also highlighted that gameplay balance remains one of the team's highest priorities. According to Paulo Luis Santos, Founder and Studio Head at Potato Kid, "As Roguelite players ourselves, we know that balancing can make or break a game like this and we are eager to get data and feedback to iterate on it and make the game feel fair in the early, mid and late stages."

To celebrate the opening of registrations, Acclaim and the studio released a new trailer showcasing part of the game's artistic direction. The video features watercolor inspired environments alongside ancient gods, powerful monsters, and magical abilities that players will encounter throughout the adventure.

First revealed during last year's PlayAcclaim Showcase, the title combines fast paced roguelite combat with an experience deeply rooted in Afro-Brazilian mythology. Its design blends exploration, progression, and challenging encounters within a colorful world inspired by ancient legends.

The story follows a young warrior who grew up believing in tales of the Orisha gods, mystical creatures, and ancient realms. As time passed, those legends faded from memory, causing the myths to unravel and disrupting the balance between worlds.

To restore harmony, players must journey across dreamlike landscapes, reconnect with divine forces, and uncover why the ancient myths have turned against reality itself. Alongside the Orisha, they will fight to prevent these stories from disappearing forever.
