SWAP/MEAT, the latest co-op shooter from veteran developers One More Game (OMG), is gearing up for its next playtest, starting this Friday, September 6, at 11 AM Pacific Time, and running through Tuesday, September 10, at 12 PM PDT. After a whirlwind of recent events at gamescom, PAX, and the Future Games Show, where the game won the Indie Awards in the 'Creative Overkill' category at devcom, SWAP/MEAT is ready to showcase its unique blend of chaotic action and quirky mechanics.

In less than a year of development, SWAP/MEAT has already made waves as a roguelite third-person shooter that plunges players into the bizarre worlds of the universe's angriest aliens. The game’s core mechanic involves "swapping meat" with defeated enemies, allowing players to steal their abilities and enhance their heroes on the go. The gameplay emphasizes co-op action, where friends team up to take down alien threats and bring home valuable resources.

Players interested in experiencing the game firsthand can apply to join the upcoming playtest. As an added incentive, referring three friends guarantees entry for the entire squad. The first playtest, held in July, provided critical feedback that the OMG team used to refine and polish the game. The resulting patch notes read like a gourmet menu, with numerous visual enhancements, bug fixes, and system improvements.

"We couldn't be more hyped to invite players to sample the rich umami flavor of SWAP/MEAT," said Jamie Stormbreaker, co-founder of OMG and game director of SWAP/MEAT. "It's true that we're showing the game after less than a year of cook time — but we can assure players the risk of foodborne illness is wildly overstated by the Intergalactic Food & Drug Administration. Don't worry about it."

In the game, 1-4 players step into the role of 'Meat Scientists' working for Rangus Meats, a multi-galactic corporation allegedly committed to creating the ultimate sustainable meat product. Players embark on missions to increasingly hostile planets, engaging in combat with alien foes and 'swapping meat' to gain strange new abilities. The ultimate goal is to extract 'meat cores' from three planets and survive a final, intense boss battle.
