The independent studio Endflame announced Silent Road, presented as a first person psychological horror game set in a remote Japanese forest region marked by a long history of suicides. The announcement came alongside the first trailer, revealing part of the unsettling nights awaiting players behind the wheel of a taxi traveling through isolated roads.
The experience places the player in the role of a night shift taxi driver who faces long routes through lonely paths and distant villages. Each ride becomes an emotional test that combines peculiar passengers, whispered stories, and conversations that grow increasingly colder as the journey progresses.
As the night unfolds, disturbing encounters emerge amid the silence, while environmental clues scattered along the road help uncover the forest’s hidden secrets. The slow burn of tension shapes the journey, guiding the player into a setting where nothing is entirely trustworthy.
Visually, the title embraces classic elements of Japanese horror, echoing inspirations such as Silent Hill f and Fatal Frame. Fog covered roads, quiet villages, and an atmosphere steeped in mystery help reinforce the psychological weight of the narrative.
The developers highlight that part of this vision stems from a long standing relationship with the genre. In their own words “We've always loved Japanese horror - the quiet tension, the atmosphere, the way it stays with you long after it ends. Silent Road grew from that love.” The statement reinforces the emotional connection driving the studio’s return to horror.
The studio also recalls its path, mentioning the creation of Ikai as the beginning of this journey. According to them “Our indie journey began with the J Horror title Ikai, and over time, we've found ourselves drawn back to the unique thrill of horror. Silent Road is our way of embracing that call, pouring our hearts into crafting a frightening experience that also carries something deeper beneath the surface. Sharing this return to horror with the world is both exciting and terrifying”.
Highlights of the production include an atmosphere inspired by Japanese regions haunted by tragedy, the routine of night driving through abandoned roads, encounters with enigmatic passengers, and unsettling requests that require the player to step out of the taxi to perform tasks that never feel entirely safe.
