RTFM (Read The F*cking Manual) is a cooperative technical support simulator, both hilarious and infused with horror elements, developed by Dinosaur Polo Club, which places players in the tense work environment of the mysterious Harmonic Inc. The game is available for PC and Mac via Itch.io. It combines humor and suspense by simulating chaotic technical support situations, while unexplained events threaten reality.
At the core of the experience, one player takes on the role of the Troubleshooter, using a manual to guide their partner, while the other acts as the Terminal Operator, responsible for interpreting and describing what appears on the screen. Communication between the two is essential, as only through precise information exchange can problems be solved and catastrophic consequences avoided.
"To get the best experience, we recommend that whoever plays the Troubleshooter have their back to the Terminal Operator's screen if playing in person, or if playing on a call, have the streaming or call window minimised. The Terminal Operator shouldn't be able to see your print-out or PDF, either. "
The dynamic reinforces the importance of mutual trust, as the Troubleshooter must correctly interpret the PDF manual to identify the proper protocol, while the Operator handles computational challenges inspired by Cold War era computer interfaces. This separation of information creates a unique atmosphere of tension and cooperation.
Amid anomalies capable of ending reality itself, players must work together to investigate and resolve each situation, taking on distinct roles that demand quick thinking and clear communication. Any mistake may lead to the total collapse of the system and the world as it is known.
