Potato Kid is making its first presentation at the Game Developers Conference 2026, showcasing, in partnership with Acclaim, the project Talaka, a fast paced combat focused roguelite that brings Afro Brazilian mythology to life in a vibrant world with a hand painted visual style. The Brazilian studio is using the event to introduce an experience to the international audience that blends intense action, watercolor inspired art, and cultural elements deeply connected to Brazil’s spiritual traditions.

" This is a very welcome change of pace for our GDC history. Being from Brazil, GDC has always been a mark in our calendar for business reasons - it's crucial to keep in touch with other studios and publishers, especially from the USA, and do business, kick off projects, and find all sorts of work for hire projects to keep the studio afloat."

In the adventure players take on the role of a young warrior who once believed in the ancient legends about the Orisha gods mystical creatures and ancestral realms. Over time however these stories faded from the world. Forgotten by collective memory the myths began to unravel descending into chaos and breaking the fragile balance between realms.

Faced with this reality the protagonist must travel across dreamlike landscapes and reconnect with divine forces to uncover why the legends have gone rogue. With the Orisha by his side he will confront corrupted creatures and powerful entities in a quest to restore harmony before the stories disappear forever.

The experience focuses on extremely fast paced action and dynamic roguelite runs. Each attempt introduces new challenges powers and god blessed weapons requiring precise reflexes to dodge parry and battle corrupted spirits and celestial beasts in intense encounters.

The journey includes confrontations against powerful Brazilian demi gods and legendary figures that once protected the land. Each boss encounter functions as a cosmic clash demanding skill deep understanding of enemy patterns and quick decision making to survive.

Another highlight lies in the explorable world formed by lush biomes inspired by Afro Brazilian heritage Candomblé rituals and jungle folklore. These areas feature watercolor painted environments filled with ancestral magic and hidden stories.

In addition the adventure offers narrative choices that shape the hero’s fate allowing players to receive divine blessings unlock secret paths and negotiate with ancient spirits. All of this is accompanied by a soundtrack created in collaboration with Afro Brazilian musicians blending drums chants and spiritual melodies to give rhythm to a world on the edge of rebirth.
