The demo of Drill Bird, the new title developed by Sebastian Larsson, Andrea Harty, Hampus Melin, and Isabelle Neuman, and published by Perfect Random, is now available on Steam. This cozy yet tense platformer focused on digging offers an engaging journey where every trip underground matters. Players take on the role of a digging bird tasked with collecting valuable minerals to feed and protect its egg, all while facing danger and racing against time.
As they explore underground caves, players must break blocks, gather resources, and make strategic choices that directly impact the growth and survival of the fragile life forming inside the egg. The deeper you dig, the greater the rewards, but also the risks. Each run presents new opportunities to uncover hidden treasures and carve a path toward new beginnings.
Digging, however, doesn’t come without threats. Mysterious and dangerous creatures lurk in the dark, requiring players to use intelligence and skill to drill through, outsmart, or avoid these subterranean enemies. Upgrades to the drill, health, and carrying capacity are essential for surviving longer and reaching the most valuable minerals.
One of the game’s key mechanics is time. There’s constant pressure to return to the surface before nightfall. The day-night cycle is unforgiving, and staying underground too long brings unknown consequences that could threaten everything the player has earned.
With its charming visuals, silent atmosphere, and wordless storytelling, Drill Bird stands out by offering a delicate balance between care and tension. Each excavation is a choice; each mineral, a step closer to hatching the egg or losing everything to the darkness.
