The main event for game developers in the Netherlands is confirmed for 2025 and promises an even bigger edition. After more than 15 years bringing together emerging and established studios from the Benelux, the event will continue in a new independent format and will take place on May 27 and 28 at the World Trade Center in Rotterdam. Traditionally business-focused, the convention attracts publishers, investors, and international media, solidifying itself as an essential platform for the growth of the gaming industry in the region.
The transition of the event to an independent foundation follows the closure of Dutch Game Garden (DGG), which previously organized the event. J.P. van Seventer, DGG's director, celebrated the continuation of the convention, highlighting years of effort to transform it into an internationally renowned event. The new organization will be led by the Benelux Games Promotional Initiative (BGPI), which is dedicated to promoting studios and developers from the region to the global market.
Institutional support for this new phase comes from the Dutch Games Association (DGA), the municipality of Rotterdam, and the Flanders Audiovisual Fund (VAF). Robert Simons, city councilor and head of the Economy portfolio, emphasized the initiative's importance for the sector, highlighting the local entrepreneurial spirit and the need for a high-level event to strengthen the country's international position in the gaming industry.
The collaboration between the Netherlands and Belgium was also emphasized by the VAF, which had already worked on previous editions of the event. Youri Loedts, head of the organization's game funding department, welcomed the event's continuation, highlighting its role as a meeting point for Flemish and Dutch talent. Regional cooperation strengthens the sector and expands the event's relevance on the global stage.
Support from the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) reinforces the event’s strategic vision, positioning itself as an export hub for the gaming industry. According to Annemieke Broesterhuizen, RVO’s director of International Trade, the continuation of the convention creates a unique opportunity to establish the Netherlands as a global hub for digital games, thanks to its strategic position in the European and global market.
The new edition will retain the key elements that made the event a reference: an exhibition space for developers to showcase their projects, talks with special guests, and networking opportunities through Meet-To-Match. Additionally, the expansion to a two-day format will provide more time for interactions and make the event even more attractive to international visitors.
Tickets and sponsorship opportunities will be available starting February 18, 2025, through the event’s official website. With a prime location and a renewed structure, the upcoming edition promises to further strengthen the region's gaming industry, consolidating its importance on the global stage.
