HYTOPIA, a platform dedicated to user-generated games, announced a new internship opportunity designed to help aspiring developers strengthen their skills and expand their portfolios. To be considered, participants must join the upcoming HYTOPIA Game Jam on itch.io, creating their projects using the voxel-based HYTOPIA SDK. No résumés are required (creativity and execution will be the deciding factors).
"As bootstrap developers ourselves, both Braydon and I know how challenging it can be to break into games," said Max Holmes, co-founder of HYTOPIA. "This internship is an opportunity for the next SpyderSammy or Jandel to take their talents to the next level and perhaps get their game featured on the HYTOPIA platform."
The event’s submissions will be open from Thursday, October 23, at 3 p.m. PT through Sunday, October 26, 2025, at 11:59 a.m. PT. The winner of the jam will earn hands-on experience developing directly on the platform, receiving mentorship, technical support, and personalized feedback from the HYTOPIA team.
Since its launch just seven months ago, the platform has drawn more than 143,000 players, who have collectively logged over 1.9 million minutes of playtime. Designed to put creators first, it blends the creative freedom of Minecraft with the accessibility of Roblox, making it a versatile space for developers of all experience levels.
Games can be built using familiar programming languages like TypeScript and JavaScript, allowing developers to create and publish multiplayer experiences across platforms in a matter of days. With the integrated SDK and Map Editor, creators can focus on crafting gameplay and visuals, while the platform automatically manages multiplayer systems and server operations.
Currently in a pre-monetization phase, the initiative gives developers a chance to experiment, refine their projects, and test their creations with a rapidly expanding player community. This period of open development is also helping shape the foundation for future monetization tools and creator-driven features.
The latest platform update introduces several improvements that enhance both creative freedom and technical performance. Procedural Map Generation allows instant creation of expansive, dynamic maps, accelerating worldbuilding. New Vehicle Assets add variety to player movement, while a Texture Refresh reworks 41 textures for sharper, more detailed visuals.
Additionally, Collider Optimization brings a major performance boost by introducing a revamped trimesh collider system. This allows massive maps to be imported as 3D models (.gltf) instead of being built block by block, ensuring smoother gameplay and greater creative flexibility for all developers working within HYTOPIA’s growing ecosystem.
