Independent developer Nowhere Studios has released a new Steam Next Fest demo for its upcoming fantasy survival crafting RPG, Good Heavens!. Featuring expressive 2D animation inspired by classic Saturday morning cartoons, the project blends accessible cooperative survival mechanics with a surreal sense of humor, delivering a world filled with absurd situations and player driven freedom.

The demo gives players their first opportunity to explore the opening region of Xant-Rar, a fractured realm made up of floating islands. After arriving aboard a spaceship with their companions, players are free to roam the initial biome, meet bewildered locals, claim a location for their base, and venture into dungeons guarded by formidable bosses. Those looking for a more relaxed experience can simply head to the nearest tavern and enjoy the setting's peculiar atmosphere.

The story centers on Rar, a deity whose good intentions are matched only by his carelessness, resulting in a series of disasters across the realm. Players take on the role of yet another messiah recruited to clean up the god's latest mistake and restore balance to the world. To accomplish this task, they are granted access to divine powers spread across six distinct progression paths.

These development routes include warfare, trickery, sorcery, homesteading, exploration, and influence, allowing for a wide variety of playstyles and approaches to overcoming challenges. Each specialization unlocks new possibilities, from battling colossal creatures and deceiving enemies to bending the laws of physics, building thriving settlements, or gathering loyal followers.

Base building plays a central role in the experience. After clearing an area of the world's unusual hybrid creatures, players can construct workshops, farms, and decorative structures while upgrading equipment and expanding their community. What begins as a modest settlement can gradually grow into a flourishing citadel capable of supporting increasingly ambitious adventures.

The world of Xant-Rar is designed to encourage constant experimentation, featuring strange creatures, dungeon expeditions, unexpected events, and situations that players can either prevent or actively create. Rather than focusing on punishing systems or repetitive chores, the game emphasizes discovery, cooperation, and creativity.

Among the key features are cooperative gameplay for up to eight players, procedurally generated biomes, six specialized progression trees, the ability to travel through the skies aboard a spaceship, and a variety of side activities such as fishing, cooking, and smelting. The Steam Next Fest demo offers a representative sample of these systems, providing a comprehensive preview of the content planned for the full release.
