Polish indie publisher Pineapple Works is collaborating with French developer Nicolas Petton to bring Dreamed Away to players worldwide. Inspired by acclaimed works such as Earthbound, Undertale and Omori, the project combines narrative depth with a distinct pixel art identity. After a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2024, the title will be released on October 23rd, 2025 for PC, Nintendo Switch 1 & 2, and Xbox One & Series S/X.
The story takes place in France during the 1990s, where players follow Théo, a young boy who wakes up one stormy summer night to find his parents and sister Louise missing. As he ventures into a reality where the supernatural lurks beneath the surface, he faces ghosts and phantoms haunting catacombs and shadowy passages. The journey becomes a desperate pursuit, with Théo always on the edge of reuniting with his sister yet never quite reaching her.
The game emphasizes atmosphere and immersion, weaving together psychological horror and mystery within a narrative-driven experience. Detailed pixel art reinforces its retro aesthetic, while the soundtrack underlines both tension and melancholy throughout the adventure.
Combat introduces a dynamic system that combines strategy with action. Players engage in fast-paced sequences shaped by mini-games that merge turn-based mechanics with bullet dodging and time-based QTEs. These encounters, alongside unique abilities and equipment, ensure that every battle feels distinct and challenging.
To give players a taste of what awaits, a free demo is available on Steam, GOG and itch.io for Windows, Mac and Linux. Lasting between one to one and a half hours, it offers a preview of the atmospheric storytelling and distinctive mechanics that define the full release.
