coherence announced coherence 2.0 as the next major update to its multiplayer engine and hosting platform, marking a significant step forward for developers of all sizes. The company highlighted that this release brings together three essential pillars: production-proven technology updates, complete hosting flexibility, and a simple, accessible pricing model. According to the team, the mission remains to help creators build more multiplayer games that connect people through play.


Built through years of hands-on work with real studios, such as Poncle, the new version offers the same tools and infrastructure used by the coherence team in demanding co-development projects. The update strengthens every part of the product, unifying Unity integration, the hosting platform, and the multiplayer engine, while enabling generalist developers to add real-time multiplayer without the typical complexity of traditional networking solutions.


One of the main highlights is the promise of full hosting flexibility, allowing teams to decide how their multiplayer experiences will run. Among the options presented are “coherence Cloud Hosting - a managed service with auto-scaling infrastructure”, “coherence Client Hosting - a modern, efficient approach to serverless hosting”, and “Self-hosting - developers run their own servers, anywhere”. The system also allows teams to mix hosting types or migrate between them without rewriting gameplay code, something proven during the launch of Vampire Survivors’ multiplayer.


Multiplayer development in version 2.0 was designed to feel as native as possible to Unity. Developers can visualize authority, validate configurations, and debug network behavior directly inside the editor, using hierarchy icons, optimization tools, and real-time visual feedback. This makes the process accessible even for developers without deep networking experience.


Alongside the launch, the company introduced a new pricing model aimed at reducing risks and costs, adapting to both indie teams and large studios. The tiers include “Starter Tier - Free for studios under $200K in revenue; full feature access”, “Pro Tier - A predictable, flat studio license for larger teams”, and specific hosting options such as “coherence Cloud Hosting - Non-expiring, prepaid credits; pay only for actual usage” and “coherence Client Hosting - a 3% revenue share only after a game earns $15K per quarter, with a clear upper cap”.


The announcement comes shortly after coherence joined the Roundtable Interactive Group, alongside Outright Games, Auroch Digital, and GameMill Entertainment, in an initiative backed by EMK Capital. The group brings together game studios, publishers, and technology companies to expand access to tools and solutions within the global multiplayer ecosystem.


During the official reveal, CEO and co-founder Dino Patti stated: “coherence 2.0 is an amazing milestone that we've been building toward since day one. Our technology has now proven itself at scale, and now we're making those capabilities available to every developer, from indies to AAA teams, leveling the playing field, with a pricing model that works for any game. Plus, with our recent joining of Roundtable Interactive Group, we're excited to push coherence even further and help more studios make incredible multiplayer games.


The new version also introduces key features focused on production reliability, offering robust performance validated in real games such as Vampire Survivors. Hosting flexibility remains a major differentiator, enabling developers to switch between client-hosted, cloud-hosted, or self-hosted options without structural rewrites.


Deep Unity integration contributes to a workflow that feels natural and familiar to developers, reducing barriers and bringing multiplayer creation closer to everyday use of the editor. This approach allows teams to focus on design and gameplay without getting lost in complex network setups.


The pricing model was structured to support teams of any size, offering viable paths for small indie creators and large-scale productions alike. The balance between accessibility and sustainability stands as one of the pillars of this new phase of the platform.
