Nautilus Games, a Spanish game development studio, has unveiled a demo of BLIGHTROLE for Steam Next Fest, highlighting a combination of simplified RPG elements and dice-based roguelite mechanics. The game features tactical combat, narrative choices, and a dark fantasy setting where every decision can bring the protagonist closer to freedom or a violent death.

The story begins with the protagonist being kidnapped by a disturbed man who identifies himself as The Master. Tied to a chair, the protagonist is forced to take part in a campaign created by his captor, who threatens to kill him if he fails to overcome the challenges ahead. Survival depends on following the rules of this cruel game, interpreting the intentions of characters encountered along the way, and finding a way to escape the kidnapper's control.

The combat system uses dice as its primary strategic resource, allowing players to unlock new dice types, roles, items, and passive abilities to create builds suited to different challenges. Combining these resources opens up opportunities to experiment with different synergies and reduce the impact of bad luck, requiring players to consider the risks of each encounter and the resources at their disposal.

Decisions also shape events beyond combat, with narrative encounters offering alternatives that can lead to unpredictable outcomes. When facing a six-meter-tall creature, for example, players can choose to confront it directly with nothing but their fists or persuade a village's hunters to take on the fight while they remain safely out of harm's way. Neither approach guarantees survival, and even the most elaborate plans can end in a fatal outcome.

The dark fantasy world features handcrafted maps, hostile creatures, and characters whose cryptic dialogue conceals important information. Under The Master's influence, each region presents situations that demand attention to detail and careful consideration of the circumstances, expanding exploration beyond immediate encounters and objectives.

The narrative also introduces a mystery that extends beyond the boundaries of each campaign. Hidden clues help reveal the truth behind the events and may point toward a path to the protagonist's freedom. By combining dice-based tactical combat, choices with unpredictable consequences, and a story centered on a prisoner trapped in a deadly game, the game turns the struggle for survival into a blend of strategy, exploration, and investigation.
