Slidemagi is a turn-based strategy game where players take on the role of mages, using a deck of cards to cast spells and create units with unique abilities while shifting the lines of the board to achieve victory. Released in March 2024 by BATOVI Games, the title stands out for its innovative movement mechanics, which add a layer of strategic depth to the game. When asked about the inspiration behind Slidemagi, the studio commented, "Slidemagi began as an attempt to create a casual game with some innovative mechanics. During the 2010s, we focused on developing casual games, and it was my study of game design that drew my attention to the 'emergent gameplay' of fusion games like Triple Town."

The central mechanic of Slidemagi, involving the sliding of board lines, was inspired by games like Chuzzle and classic strategy games such as Chaos: The Battle of Wizards. "While researching these types of games and their mechanics, we created the first rule for prototyping. We decided to use the sliding line mechanic from Chuzzle to combine two objects, triggering some kind of action. On the other hand, we always wanted to make a turn-based strategy game like Chaos: The Battle of Wizards by Julian Gollop, a duel between wizards where units are created through spells," the studio revealed, explaining the fusion between casual and strategic genres.

The gameplay dynamic in Slidemagi revolves around the duel between two mages, each with a deck of sixteen cards that must be chosen before the match begins. "At the start of the game, a hand of five cards is dealt, which are spells that can be used at any time. The mage can either move or cast a spell. The created units give the player a greater chance to attack the enemy mage and defend their own," explained BATOVI Games. Each unit has unique characteristics that vary depending on the elements present on the board, and it's up to the player to adapt their strategies to the terrain conditions and the opponent's units.

Community feedback was crucial to the development of Slidemagi, and the studio chose to release the game in Early Access to gather these contributions. "We decided to do Early Access to get feedback from the players, and this phase was very productive," stated the studio. Interaction with the community became a vital part of the process, with BATOVI Games promoting discussions and suggestions through the game's official Discord. The studio aims to turn Slidemagi into a competitive game, with support for online matches and the organization of tournaments, something akin to chess.

As for the future of Slidemagi, BATOVI Games plans to continue adding new areas, spells, and units to the game. Additionally, the studio is considering implementing challenges and campaigns as single-player game modes, allowing players to test their skills against the AI before facing other mages in tournaments. "These are ambitious ideas and depend on community engagement," concluded the studio.
