At the beginning of the month, XboxEra launched its new Kickstarter project, Console Wars The Card Game, and the gaming community responded enthusiastically, funding the project in less than 96 hours. The game, which satirizes the gaming industry and the eternal competition between video game platforms, publishers, and players, quickly won over the audience with its parody-filled approach.
Now that the project is funded, the XboxEra team is focused on enhancing the product with a list of community-driven stretch goals. According to Jon Clarke, co-founder of XboxEra, these goals aim to “elevate the entire end product for all our backers, with the help of the community spreading the word.” The team believes that crowdfunding is essential to get the game printed and shipped and that community involvement is crucial to the project's success.
In addition to the physical goals, there are also initial plans for a digital version of Console Wars The Card Game. Clarke mentioned that, after participating in Gamescom, several conversations were initiated with game publishers about the possibility of a digital version. “It’s still very early days, and our focus is on producing the physical game, but we’re open to exploring what’s possible with a digital version for mobile, console, or PC,” he explained.
The community’s reception also brought some surprises for the XboxEra team. Clarke highlighted that the most unexpected and humorous feedback he received was about the "flavor" text on the cards. “As the guy who wrote all the cards, getting feedback that people found them hilarious and that they liked or loved all the fun ‘flavor’ text was very cool. Several people described the game as ‘The Ultimate Card Game for Gamers’—happy to put that on the back of the box!” Clarke shared with enthusiasm.
