Estonian indie studio Robot Laser Shark showcased a public demo of Grannies on Wheels during gamescom 2026, introducing audiences to a chaotic single screen party experience with an aesthetic inspired by handmade clay toys. The concept puts grannies behind the wheel of monster trucks, competing for jars of jam and settling their differences through vehicle collisions, jumps and destruction.
Matches bring together up to four players in colourful arenas where terrain can be deformed and objects fly unpredictably, creating situations that depend on both physics and player decisions. The experience is designed to be accessible to players of different ages, with multiple game modes focused on local multiplayer and lighthearted competition.
The visual direction reinforces the project’s identity by presenting a world reminiscent of a handmade clay toy set, while dynamic environments increase the impact of crashes and accidents. Jumping trucks, changing terrain and objects thrown across the arenas contribute to matches filled with unexpected moments.
The project also marks Estonian team Robot Laser Shark’s commercial debut, as the studio seeks to turn the combination of local multiplayer, physics and humour into an experience accessible to a broad audience. The demo showcased at gamescom 2026 offers an early look at the team’s main gameplay mechanics.
The full version is planned for release on Steam and consoles in Early Access in early 2027, marking the team’s next step with its first commercial production.
