Solo developer Gilang Gumelar Studios has released the first demo for its new project, Wiseman: No More Breakups, on Steam, giving players a preview of an experience that blends rhythm based combat, absurd humor, and relationship drama in a highly unusual setting. The demo is now available for Windows and macOS.
The story follows August Wiseman, a young man determined to get his phone back after it is taken by his girlfriend. To recover it, he must make his way through a moving train and confront a variety of people connected to her life, including her best friend, family members, former partners, a pet, and other eccentric figures standing in his way.
Each encounter serves as a direct extension of the narrative, turning arguments, lingering frustrations, and awkward situations into character driven boss battles. Rather than functioning as simple gameplay challenges, these fights gradually reveal more about the relationships between the characters and the events that led to the central conflict.
The gameplay revolves around four button rhythm inputs that act as the foundation of combat. Unlike traditional rhythm games focused on dancing or high scores, correctly timed inputs become attacks and defensive actions, requiring focus and precision to overcome each boss. The result is a compact and intense experience built around quick reflexes and the escalating emotional tension of the story.
The demo includes three boss fights, three difficulty modes called Toddler, Teenager, and Wiseman, as well as an anime inspired interface and comic book style presentation. Relationship comedy, jazz fusion music, and a stylish visual direction further reinforce the game's eccentric tone.
Players can select a boss, survive the encounter, learn its mechanics, and uncover new details about the turbulent relationship between August and Megatron. This structure combines gradual mastery of the combat system with ongoing narrative progression.
Gilang Gumelar, solo developer at Gilang Gumelar Studios, explained the concept behind the project, stating: "I wanted Wiseman to feel like a breakup argument turned into a boss rush. The game is funny and absurd, but every boss also reveals something about the relationship, the people around it, and August's refusal to admit he actually cares."
Currently in development for PC and macOS via Steam, the full release is planned as a short and highly replayable experience, combining boss rush gameplay, rhythm based mechanics, and a story that mixes relationship drama with over the top comedy in a journey that is as chaotic as it is unpredictable.
