Voivod: The Nuclear Warrior is a shooter-platformer in the metroidvania style that immerses players in the dystopian universe of the iconic metal band Voivod. Developed by Chaosmonger Studio and scheduled for release in late 2026 on major platforms, the game combines fast-paced combat, meticulous exploration, and a reality-bending narrative, bringing the aesthetics and spirit of thrash metal into an interactive experience.
The adventure places the player in the role of a warrior lost in a post-nuclear wasteland filled with mechanical horrors and unstable dimensions. The protagonist’s body is constantly mutating and, in the process, he literally loses his own head. Guided by his disembodied mind, Nothingface, the goal is to gather fragments of consciousness scattered across a surreal world, facing dangers that blend science fiction with apocalyptic chaos.
Gameplay highlights include fast, precise combat with both weapons and melee attacks against hordes of cybernetic abominations and intergalactic warlords. Progression in the metroidvania style allows players to unlock new abilities and equipment, revealing hidden paths and secret areas within a fragmented and unpredictable setting.
Boss battles are inspired by the band’s iconic album covers, introducing colossal, visually striking enemies. The pixel art aesthetic reinforces the gritty, dark atmosphere, evoking the classics of the 1990s and delivering a strong visual identity.
The soundtrack is one of the most significant elements of immersion, featuring reworked tracks from the band’s current lineup adapted to a retro video game format. This fusion of sound and image creates a direct link to the band’s artistic essence.
The project goes beyond a simple adaptation, being the result of direct collaboration with Voivod. Michel Langevin (Away) contributes visual design and artwork; Daniel Mongrain (Chewy) oversees the music adaptation; Denis Bélanger (Snake) provides the protagonist’s voice; and Dominic Laroche (Rocky) serves as a playtester and gameplay consultant.
Every environment and enemy has been carefully crafted to convey the unique atmosphere of the band’s universe, resulting in an intense and unpredictable journey. The fusion of music, art, and interactivity promises to captivate both Voivod fans and players seeking a challenging and visually unforgettable experience.
