Argentine indie developer Bicho Raro Games has officially unveiled The Swamp Daughter, a 2.5D narrative adventure set in an eco-apocalyptic world that explores themes of identity, memory, survival, and the consequences of human actions. Based on the award winning novel La Hija del Delta by author and game designer Alejandra Bruno, the game follows Julia, a girl born during a global pandemic who grows up with her family in a dangerous river delta where the remnants of civilization slowly disappear as nature struggles to recover.
Julia dreams of building a peaceful farming community capable of creating a better future for those who survived the collapse. To make that vision a reality, players will explore the swamp, gather resources, recover personal belongings and testimonies left behind by humanity, and uncover a family secret that has remained hidden for years while gradually revealing Julia's origins and the fate of the world around her.
Players can already experience the adventure through a playable Steam demo. The demo is part of the Indie Dev Argentina event running from August 1 through August 8 and is available in English and Latin American Spanish. In the full release, every decision will shape the story, influencing Julia's relationships, her journey, and the future of the community she hopes to create.
Inspired by the landscapes of Argentina's Paraná River Delta, the swamp plays a central role in the experience and feels like a character of its own. The environment combines ruined structures, natural resources, hidden dangers, and clues about Julia's past, creating a setting that blends beauty, mystery, and a constant sense of decay.
Exploration is combined with resource management, puzzle solving, and cinematic quick time events that require players to balance survival with discovery. Throughout the journey, players will collect fragments of the old world that gradually reveal the events behind the environmental and social collapse.
Progression also features farming and construction activities, allowing players to gather seeds, cultivate the land, and participate in mini games designed around surviving without causing further harm to the fragile ecosystem. Distinctive artwork, cinematic framing, and dynamic camera work reinforce the emotional storytelling while supporting the game's multiple possible endings.
