The indie duo Powerhoof has officially announced the release date for their fast-paced point and click thriller The Drifter, set to launch on July 17, 2025, for Windows, macOS, and Linux via Steam. A version for Nintendo Switch is also in development, with a planned release later this year. More information on the console version will be shared in the coming months, as the studio builds anticipation for one of its most ambitious projects to date.

Ahead of Steam Next Fest, which runs from June 9 to 16, a playable demo is already available on Steam. It features the game’s full first chapter, offering players a gripping introduction to its intense narrative style. With tight pacing and high stakes, the demo aims to showcase the title’s unique spin on the traditional adventure genre, blending cinematic suspense with interactive storytelling.

Accompanying the announcement, a brand-new trailer highlights the game’s striking pixel art and pulp-inspired atmosphere. Influenced by the works of Stephen King, John Carpenter, and Michael Crichton, the game weaves a grim tale of conspiracies, murder, and otherworldly threats. It's a 2D adventure game with no brakes, built to deliver adrenaline-fueled storytelling in every click.

The narrative follows Mick Carter, a man who's been drifting from job to job, never settling for long. On his way back to his hometown, he witnesses a brutal murder, only to become the target of mysterious soldiers. After being thrown into a reservoir and drowned, Mick somehow returns to life, just seconds before his death. With reality now unsteady, and the past clawing its way into the present, he's forced to run from both the law and whatever followed him back from the brink.

As Mick struggles to understand what’s happening, he must also clear his name, confront painful memories, and face a growing unease that something is terribly wrong. The game merges noir-style pacing with unsettling sci-fi and supernatural elements, bringing a fresh, pulse-pounding edge to the point and click tradition.

While the game honors classic mechanics, it introduces refined investigative puzzles that are designed to enhance the pace rather than slow it down. This approach keeps players engaged without sacrificing the storytelling flow, offering a polished experience that feels both modern and faithful to the genre’s roots.

From the creators of Peridium and Crawl, this new title features professional voice acting, a cinematic dark-synth soundtrack, and support for both mouse and gamepad controls. Its gritty aesthetic, paired with a twist-filled narrative, promises to deliver a memorable adventure for fans of thrillers, mysteries, and pixel-perfect storytelling.
