Journey to the Void marks the return of the award-winning indie studio RuneHeads with a new entry in the roguelite genre, scheduled to arrive on Steam on January 28. The proposal introduces a tactical, grid-based combat system built around cards, turning each confrontation into a carefully calculated strategic challenge.
At the center of the battlefield, the player remains immobile, surrounded by enemies on all sides. Survival depends on the precise combination of cards with unique attack patterns, creating an experience that feels closer to turn-based strategy than to traditional card games.
As the journey progresses, the challenges become more unpredictable and demand increasingly thoughtful decisions. Powerful synergies can be built along the way, while moral choices shape not only the current run but also the very world in which the adventure unfolds.
The universe presented is broad and varied, with twenty-five arenas spread across eight distinct biomes. There are more than three hundred cards, weapons, and items, as well as over one hundred enemy types, including ten bosses, all influenced by elemental abilities that directly affect the flow of each battle.
Narrative interactions play a central role, with more than one hundred events capable of permanently altering the course of the campaign. Every decision carries consequences that go beyond the immediate moment, reinforcing the feeling that no two journeys are ever truly the same.
Another element that ensures constant variety is the procedurally generated hero system. Each character comes with unique combinations of traits, with their own advantages and drawbacks, guaranteeing different experiences with every new attempt.
Progression is supported by light RPG mechanics that allow players to improve essential attributes such as Constitution, Strength, Resonance, and Intelligence. By investing experience earned in battle, players shape their playstyle and redefine their hero’s strengths and weaknesses.
Elemental biomes are not merely background scenery but directly influence how cards and abilities function. Scorching firelands or frozen tundras require constant adjustments to the deck in order to make the most of the conditions imposed by the environment.
Along the journey, merchants offer trinkets, weapons, and items that expand strategic possibilities, while new side quests add extra layers of immersion. Every encounter, no matter how small, can change the fate of the adventure.
By combining strategy, narrative, and meaningful choices, the experience establishes itself as a singular proposal within the genre. By demanding reflection, adaptation, and constant sacrifice, Journey to the Void reaffirms its identity as a tactical challenge that values both the player’s mind and courage.
