Developed by Stupidi Pixel and published by Stratos Publishing, Splatchinko combines pachinko, turn based strategy and roguelike elements in an experience marked by absurd humour and a classic arcade aesthetic. An updated version of the demo is available during the Steam Pins & Pegs Fest, which runs until today, August 20, offering a new opportunity to experience the game ahead of its planned Steam release later this year.
The campaign follows two cosmic entities capable of devouring universes that have been separated from one another, putting players on a mission to travel across the galaxy and reunite them. The journey takes place among planets, galaxies and boards filled with pegs, while each run turns the destruction caused by the entity into a form of unavoidable collateral damage.
Combat uses eyes as the primary form of attack, allowing players to launch them at the pegs across the boards to deal damage and trigger chain reactions. The number of pegs hit during each launch influences the destructive potential, while explosions and combinations of abilities expand the strategic possibilities throughout each run.
More than 100 eyes can be collected and upgraded, alongside more than 70 mutations capable of altering bounce physics, damage and different abilities. Each run features varied boards, planets, bosses and encounters, while seven characters offer their own playstyles and new mutations can be unlocked after reuniting with the lost love.
The structure also supports a story about a love that transcends galaxies and universes, placing a cosmic entity on a mission to reach the one it loves. The combination of progression, chaotic physics and roguelike elements is designed to make every attempt different, keeping destruction on an astronomical scale at the heart of the experience.
