Australian developer Henry's House has announced that Slayblade will launch for PC via Steam on August 20, 2026, following significant attention generated by the release of its demo. The game combines physics based gameplay with roguelite elements in an experience centered around battle tops, allowing players to build their equipment, combine different abilities and compete for control of the streets.
Set in a vibrant city inspired by Y2K aesthetics, the title puts players on wheels as they explore the environment in search of cash and upgrades for their battle tops. Progression allows players to collect more than 60 parts, combine their powers and face opponents in matches that blend customization, physics and laid back combat, while defeat comes with a humorous consequence described by the game itself: "And if you die in the game, you die in real life (probably not)."
The demo's reception also significantly changed the team's expectations for the project. Oscar, the game's director, explained: "Slayblade was meant to be a small game, for a small audience, for a small price point. We were blown away by how many people watched the trailer and wishlisted it on Steam. But we were so inspired by the reception that we decided we had a DUTY to make the best damn spinning top game in town!"
Initially planned as a small, low budget production, the project has already surpassed 92,000 wishlists on Steam, a figure that came as a surprise to the developers. The team had aimed to keep development costs at just US$15,000, but the unexpected response to the demo has considerably increased the project's visibility ahead of its release.
With its launch set for August 20, the production arrives on Steam after turning a modest initial concept into an independent project that has attracted significant attention from players. Its combination of physics based battles, customization and Y2K aesthetics will serve as the main distinguishing features of the experience planned by Henry's House.
