Now available on Steam, Skull Horde is an auto battler and dungeon exploration game where players take on the role of a flying necromancer skull. Developed by 8BitSkull, the title blends dungeon crawling with auto battler mechanics inspired by Diablo II, while also incorporating a roguelite structure, having officially launched for PC on April 10.
The Watermelo team had the opportunity to try the game, and the first impressions, written by Editor in Chief Vinicius Melo, highlight the fast paced nature of the experience. "The gameplay is highly dynamic and engaging. Even though it revolves around waves of skeleton hordes, everything feels fast-paced, fluid, and genuinely fun. I played several matches in a row, and the experience remains consistently enjoyable, making it perfect for anyone looking for quick and casual fun."
The gameplay is built around strategy and build crafting, allowing players to recruit and merge units to unlock stronger forms and unique abilities. These combinations are further expanded through perks, loot, and dungeon boons, creating powerful synergies that can become game changing. While minion combat is automated, player decisions such as squad composition, upgrades, routing, and risk management are crucial to success.
Each run takes place in procedurally generated dungeons, offering a constant variety of enemies, challenges, and rewards. This system encourages experimentation and greatly enhances replayability, as no two runs feel exactly the same.
As players progress, powerful perks are unlocked and can be selected at the start of each run. Combining these perks with the strengths of different playable characters creates a strong strategic foundation, enabling a wide range of effective playstyles.
Each dungeon type features a unique set of challenges that require different approaches to overcome. Completing these objectives rewards players with new unlocks and content, further expanding the overall experience.
Key features include procedurally generated dungeons, real time auto battles, multiple levels with unique enemy types, different playable characters with special abilities, a variety of unit types that can be merged into stronger versions, a wide range of valuable loot, powerful perks, and challenges that demand creative combinations to overcome. In addition, the game supports Windows PC, Steam Deck, Linux, and macOS, and is available in multiple languages, including Brazilian Portuguese.
