Crunch Moonkiss Studios has set the first quarter of 2027 as the release window for Remain At Your Desk, an incremental hacking game that places players in a corporate routine shaped by clandestine activities. A free demo will be available during Steam Next Fest, running from October 19 to 26, offering an opportunity to experience the combination of workplace productivity simulation, system infiltration, and risk management within a company.
The experience divides the protagonist's routine between two roles: completing administrative tasks to appear productive and infiltrating the corporate network after hours to steal confidential information. While reports, database synchronization, and other office duties generate credits to fund upgrades, covert operations require players to bypass firewalls, exploit vulnerabilities, and evade the company's surveillance systems. The background selected before the first shift also influences progression, with different personal histories affecting the starting conditions and the way the protagonist interacts with the CONDUTOR, a figure who plays a role throughout the journey.
The progression system combines two economies with distinct purposes. Credits earned through legitimate work allow players to purchase upgrades, automate tasks, and save time, while information stolen during infiltrations unlocks a separate upgrade tree. Career promotions also grant access to the Black Market, where stolen data can be exchanged for permanent advantages that remain available after resets. However, every operation increases suspicion, potentially triggering audits and interrogations that threaten the protagonist's hard earned position.
Disguise mechanics expand the available strategies, allowing players to assume identities such as a janitor, an IT administrator, or a consultant to gain specific advantages during infiltrations. Excessive use of these personas reduces their effectiveness, requiring alternative ways to contain investigations, including falsifying reports, deleting logs, or bribing people. Another mechanic involves repeatedly infiltrating the same targets to compile dossiers and uncover strategic information, including internal conflicts, blind spots in the security system, and executive documents that reveal how the organization operates.
Progression also incorporates a prestige system in which promotions allow players to restart their journey with stronger multipliers and retained personas, encouraging new strategies with each cycle. Failure carries more severe consequences: when the protagonist is caught, all accumulated progress is lost, forcing a complete restart. By combining incremental management, corporate espionage, and decisions about whether to sell or retain stolen information, the game establishes a central conflict that balances the pursuit of permanent advantages against the risk of jeopardizing the entire operation.
