Pixel Maniacs has unveiled its newest project, It’s Always Happy at Chubby’s, a horror game in the form of a simulator set in a 24 hour 1990s style burger joint. Located in the middle of nowhere, it places players in the role of a night shift employee tasked with keeping the restaurant running while the rest of the world sleeps. Alone through the night, the protagonist must keep the place clean and serve the few customers who show up at the drive thru, all while trying to ignore the constant feeling that something is off.
The experience recreates the seemingly ordinary routine of a night worker but adds an atmosphere that blends nostalgia and unease. Each shift challenges the player with simple tasks such as cleaning up after the previous crew and maintaining cheerful service. However, true tension builds while monitoring the security cameras, where strange activities might appear at any time, turning the diner’s cozy atmosphere into something deeply unsettling.
Among the house rules, employees must strictly follow the instructions shown in the training videos played at the start of each night. The company values a positive attitude and the ability to stay calm under pressure, especially when the darkness seems to hide more than just shadows. Curious or easily frightened applicants are unlikely to fit well into the so called “Chubby’s Family.”
This marks the studio’s first venture into horror, promising to blend its trademark creativity with a dense and disquieting atmosphere. With only eight team members, the group has already gained recognition for its previous titles, ChromaGun and Can’t Drive This, celebrated for their humor and originality. Now, the studio dives into new territory, exploring psychological horror with a touch of irony and criticism toward night shift work culture.
