Developer Justcamh has released a new gameplay trailer for Nonolith, a minimalist pixel art Metroidvania that combines platforming and puzzle-solving with an approach that challenges the genre’s traditional progression systems. Rather than relying on unlocking abilities to reach new areas, the game emphasizes the player’s knowledge and understanding of the possibilities offered by the environment itself.

Trapped inside an enigmatic living structure, players can copy, paste, move, rotate, and destroy parts of the scenery to create alternative paths, build bridges, dig tunnels, and break through walls. The necessary tools are available from the beginning, but their applications gradually become apparent as experimentation reveals solutions to obstacles that initially seem insurmountable.

Exploration spans nine worlds that can be visited in any order, without enforcing a rigid progression sequence or requiring specific equipment to advance. Discovering new combinations of existing mechanics lies at the heart of the experience, encouraging players to approach challenges in different ways and reach areas that initially appear inaccessible.

Escaping the structure does not necessarily mark the end of the journey, as deeper areas conceal interconnected puzzles, secret interactions, and revelations about the true nature of this universe. The trailer highlights this non-linear exploration, in which progress depends less on acquiring new abilities and more on recognizing possibilities that have been available from the very beginning.
