Solo developer FYRE Games announced that its new cinematic and narrative-driven horror title, Project Songbird, will launch on March 26 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. On PC, the game will be self-published by the studio, while the console versions will be published by Dojo System, marking an important milestone for the independent project.
Set beneath the oppressive atmosphere of the Appalachian forests, the experience presents a surreal and psychological narrative that delves into the darker side of the creative process. The story follows Dakota, a musician facing a creative crisis who, struggling with severe writer’s block, decides to isolate themselves in a remote cabin to record a new album, searching for inspiration and silence.
As the character explores the dense landscape among the pine trees, the promise of tranquility begins to unravel. The isolation reveals that something hidden lurks in the darkness, suggesting that not all inspiration comes from positive sources and that the creative process can carry unsettling consequences.
With a strong focus on narrative, cinematic presentation, and player immersion, Project Songbird builds a striking contrast between beautiful natural environments and disturbing, dreamlike settings. This duality reinforces the psychological tone of the experience, heightening the sense of unease and mystery throughout the journey.
The adventure offers an engaging campaign lasting approximately four to five hours, featuring both ranged and melee combat, along with upgradeable weapons that aid survival. The voice cast includes Valerie Rose Lohman, Jonah Scott, and Aleks Le, whose performances enhance the emotional impact of the narrative.
Complementing the atmosphere, the dynamic and haunting soundtrack was composed and performed by Jacob Noska and Jonah Henthorne, members of the band Auric Echoes. The combination of music, storytelling, and setting promises an intense experience designed to hold players’ attention from beginning to end.
