Neuron Activation has received an updated demo, accompanied by a brand new trailer that expands the experience created by indie developer DR Studio and published by Pretty Soon. The update adds new narrative moments, cosmetic items, leaderboards, touch support, different ways to play, and a preview of Zen Mode, providing new reasons to return to the experience.
The concept puts players in front of a kind of digital fidget box built around small interactive tasks that involve pressing buttons, flipping switches, moving sliders, shooting targets, and completing different challenges with speed and precision. The structure relies on tactile feedback and a constant succession of activities to keep players engaged, while progression introduces a narrative that goes beyond simply chasing high scores.
The presence of The Handler also becomes increasingly important as players progress through the tasks, gradually revealing a more unsettling situation behind the control panel. Corporate orders begin to play a central role in the experience, while players are encouraged to question how far they should follow the instructions they receive, turning seemingly simple activities into part of a more disturbing narrative.
The updated demo adds an in game store dedicated to purchasing cosmetic items and loot boxes without using real money. Interacting with the loot boxes and the player badge also triggers new dialogue and a dedicated sub narrative, while progressing through the story allows players to unlock titles for their profile.
Zen Mode offers a preview featuring four of the 30 planned boards, allowing players to experiment with the challenges through a more relaxed and pressure free approach. The update also introduces three new interactive buttons, expanding the possibilities for experimentation within the mode.
Gauntlet Mode brings the available boards together in a rapid sequence, encouraging players to pursue the fastest completion times and compete on the leaderboards. The ranking system adds a competitive layer to the experience, giving players another reason to return to the challenges and improve their previous results.
The update also includes various quality of life and user interface improvements, along with full touch support throughout the demo. The addition expands the available control options and is particularly useful for players using devices such as Steam Deck, who can now experience the demo with touch controls.
