Independent Finnish developer MiTale has announced that its dark fantasy action RPG Willow Guard will launch the Frostreign DLC for PC via Steam on April 23. The new content expands the story driven experience featuring animal characters and introduces a new companion a young wolverine cub named Súri who joins the journey.

In the base game the duty bound hero Ghweros defended the animal kingdom from monster attacks fighting through hand crafted pixel art dungeons. The expansion continues this quest taking him to Regnum Polis where he must prevent another threat before the next Solstice while facing unnatural and seemingly endless winter conditions.

During this journey Ghweros uses ancient portals to navigate which leads him to meet Súri an orphaned cub with impressive combat skills. With her at his side as a resourceful apprentice he confronts creatures from Alteros while they both investigate the secrets behind the portals and seek to understand the dangers threatening their home.

Together they gather clues and items along the way uncovering hidden secrets and deepening the knowledge of the rich world they inhabit. The story progression reinforces the investigative tone of the expansion connecting events and revelations in a gradual way.

The combat system of Willow Guard remains a core pillar of the experience allowing players to face cursed enemies with fast and strategic attacks. Progression comes through improving gear and mastering a deck of abilities including ranged attacks and healing skills along with the Inclination system which shapes Ghweros personality and defines the kind of leader he will become.
