Inspired by Norse mythology, Meadgard features a cartoonish 3D art style that adds personality and charm to its humorous narrative, with a demo now available during Steam Next Fest. Developed by Oddiko, the game combines tavern management, exploration, and co-op combat with a cooking system that goes far beyond simply clicking and dragging ingredients across a griddle. Preparing dishes requires speed and coordination as unpredictable situations unfold, creating plenty of opportunities for laughter and moments of collective stress among friends. Offering approximately one hour of content, the demo also includes customization, crafting, and banquet preparation activities for up to four players.
The adventure puts players in the roles of vikings tasked with transforming a rundown tavern into one of the most renowned establishments across the Nine Realms. Their goal is to earn a place at the legendary feast of Valhalla by balancing resource gathering, facility upgrades, and customer service in an environment filled with unpredictable situations and cooperative challenges.
Exploration takes place during the day, when players leave the safety of the tavern to hunt mythical creatures, raid camps, and gather ingredients for the evening banquets. Giant trolls, mischievous nissars, and other threats require the use of weapons and improvised objects, such as frying pans, eggs, and explosive mushrooms. These expeditions also offer opportunities to discover hidden treasures and earn blessings from the Æsir, the Norse gods.
When night falls, the tavern becomes a bustling workplace where players must prepare meals, serve drinks, and entertain guests while trying to prevent customers from destroying the establishment. The rowdy behavior of the vikings and the presence of coin-stealing goblins add further complications to the management process, requiring players to coordinate their efforts to keep the service running smoothly. The cooking mechanics take center stage, with orders demanding speed and organization amid the chaos, turning every shift into a shared challenge.
Progression allows players to expand the facilities and customize the space, creating a welcoming gathering place for travelers. New recipes can be unlocked, while growing crops, brewing potions, and crafting weapons provide resources to face increasingly powerful enemies. Recruiting peculiar locals also introduces upgrades and individual stories as the establishment develops.
The combination of exploration, management, dynamic cooking, and co-op combat creates an experience in which success depends as much on preparing for encounters as it does on organizing the service during the banquets. Supporting sessions for one to four players, the demo showcases the challenge of building a legendary tavern amid the chaos of Norse mythology, with activities alternating between gathering resources and keeping customers satisfied without letting the place descend into a battlefield.
