Luminary has received an Early Access release date in a new trailer unveiled by Refractive Entertainment, confirming its arrival on Steam on August 11. Developed by a two person team, the action RPG with ARPG lite elements is designed for solo play or cooperative sessions with up to three players, featuring shared progression, accessible exploration, and a combat system built to be welcoming for both newcomers and experienced players.

The project was inspired by Creative Director Keith Kolod's experience playing The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild with his family. Having to pass the controller around during each session motivated the creation of an adventure where everyone could take part at the same time, preserving the feeling of sharing a fantasy journey without interruptions.

With more than 50,000 wishlists on Steam, the game encourages players to explore a handcrafted world filled with monsters to defeat, hidden treasures to uncover, and a wide variety of weapons and combat builds to experiment with. Progression is shared between solo and cooperative play, allowing players to continue advancing regardless of how they choose to experience the adventure.

The story takes players to a world shaped by an ancient primal magic that rose from the depths of the earth. While this power fueled mighty empires, it also corrupted both the land and its inhabitants, turning forests, rivers, and skies into symbols of darkness. As a new Luminary, players must gather their strength, destroy the Ebonarch's source of power, strip away their immortality, and restore hope alongside fellow warriors.

The progression system gives players the freedom to experiment with different classes, abilities, and combat styles without locking them into a single identity. Character development unfolds steadily throughout the adventure, encouraging players to refine their strategies and adapt their builds as new challenges emerge.

New equipment is earned through exploration and combat, allowing players to switch weapons freely to suit different encounters. Character customization is designed to provide meaningful variety while remaining approachable, balancing depth with ease of use.

Character progression carries over between sessions, encouraging players to tackle higher difficulty levels where stronger enemies offer greater rewards. This structure is intended to increase replayability while preserving the core experience, delivering familiar gameplay with an evolving challenge.

Throughout the Early Access period, Refractive Entertainment plans to expand the game with new areas, gameplay improvements, and refinements shaped by community feedback. The studio's goal is to evolve the adventure through steady updates while focusing on meaningful improvements rather than overwhelming players with excessive features.
